Early Pool Opening: The Key to a Hassle-Free Summer Season

Greetings everyone,

As the swimming pool season approaches, it's important to note that due to the mild winter and heavy rainfall over the past six months, opening your pool may be more challenging than usual. To combat any potential issues, I highly recommend adding Liquid Shock and Polyquat Algaecide to your pool immediately if you have a mesh cover or a cover with drain panels. Using 1 gallon of Liquid Shock per 5,000 gallons of pool water will kill any algae and bacteria that may have built up during the winter months, while adding 1 quart of Polyquat 60 Algaecide will prevent algae growth from continuing.

If you have a 16x32 pool with 20,000 gallons, you will need 4 gallons of Liquid Shock and 1 quart of Polyquat 60 Algaecide.

For an 18x36 pool with 25,000 gallons, you will need 5 gallons of Liquid Shock and 1 quart of Polyquat 60 Algaecide.

And for a 20x40 pool with 30,000 gallons, you will need 6 gallons of Liquid Shock and 1 quart of Polyquat 60 Algaecide.

Regardless of the type of pool you have, I highly recommend opening your pool earlier than usual this year. For pools with a mesh cover or a cover with drain panel, it's best to open at the end of April or beginning of May. For pools with solid covers, opening in mid-May would be ideal. By opening your pool earlier, you'll need less balancing chemicals to get your water in top shape, and cooler water is easier to clean than warm water.
